• The MD-3003B1 runs on a 9-volt standard. To install the battery cover, close the battery cover and insert the battery into its compartment when matching the +/- symbols.
• Turn on the unit by pushing the on/off switch until it clicks and the green LED lights up. An increase in the detector's sensitivity and depth range can be achieved by turning the sensitivity adjuster until the red LED lights up and a steady volume setting is heard. Turn the sensitivity adjuster (counterclockwise) until the red LED goes out and the tone disappears. The detector is now tuned for optimum sensitivity and depth range.
• Holding the unit with the sensing face towards the surface, continuously scan backwards and forwards at a height of 10-30mm above the area to be scanned.
• The presence of metal will be indicated by a sound warning tone and a red light. The detection signal will automatically decrease if the detector is still held on a metal object, so it is important that the unit continuously scans the surface during use.
